If Chemotherapy Fails 97% Of The Time, Why Do Doctors Recommend It?

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. According to the National Institute of Health, around 1,658,370 new cases will be diagnosed and 589,430 people will die from cancer in 2015. While most conventional cancer treatments revolve around a mix of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, some people question their efficacy — particularly chemotherapy. In these videos two naturopathic doctors make the argument that in many cases, chemo does more harm than good.

In the first video, Peter Glidden, BS, ND, brings up the relationship between cancer and monetary profit. Glidden, author of The MD Emperor Has No Clothes, cites a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, which found that over a 12-year period, chemotherapy did not cure adult cancer 97 percent of the time. “Why is it still used? There’s one reason, and one reason only,” Glidden says in the video. “Money.”

He points out that while doctors don’t get direct kickbacks for prescribing most medications, chemo drugs are unique in that the doctors purchase them from the pharmaceutical company and then sell them to patients at a profit.

“Chemotherapeutic drugs are the only classification of drugs that the prescribing doctor gets a direct cut of,” Glidden says. “The only reason chemotherapy is used is because doctors make money from it — period. It doesn’t work 97 percent of the time. If Ford Motor Company made an automobile that exploded 97 percent of the time, would they still be in business?” he asks. “No.”

An Australian study looking at the contribution of cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival rates in adults with malignancies found that the “overall contribution of curative and adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adults was estimated to be 2.3% in Australia and 2.1% in the USA.” In their conclusion, the researchers stated: “it is clear that cytotoxic chemotherapy only makes a minor contribution to cancer survival.”

He cites this issue as just one example of a so-called healthcare system that prioritizes profits over human wellness.

“This is the tip of the iceberg of the control that the pharmaceutical industry has on us,” says Glidden. “Medicine in the United States is a for-profit industry. Most people are unaware of this, and most people bow down to the altar of MD-directed high-tech medicine.”

In the second video, naturopathic doctor Leonard Coldwell shares a similar perspective, calling chemotherapy “the Agent Orange of the medical profession.”

“If you have a garden with flowers and bushes and trees and grass, and some weeds, you come with Agent Orange and kill it all off, and now it’s all dead, and you hope only the good stuff is coming back,” Coldwell says. “They bombard the entire system and then they say the cancer is in remission.”

He notes that statistics on the effectiveness of cancer cures refer to survival rates after five years. “You killed basically every bioelectrical and biochemical function in the body,” he says. “Since nothing works anymore, for three years, you have no cancer, you’re cured. You’re just dead in five years.”

Coldwell claims that radiation can cause similar harm. “It’s an assault with a deadly weapon,” he says. “When you radiate someone, it’s causing scars. A scar can never turn back into healthy tissue.”

The problem, he says, is the way doctors are trained. “No medical doctor ever learns about curing anything,” says Coldwell. “They learn about chemical intervention or surgery to suppress symptoms. They don’t go for the root cause.”

He points out that doctors have high rates of suicide as well as alcohol and drug abuse. “These poor guys figure out over time that they have no tools and that they are murdering, and [have] murdered, their patients,” Coldwell says. “You go into the medical profession, the first year, the first two years, you’re really excited, you’re really in it, you’re giving your all, until you find out no matter what you do the patient gets worse, or they cure themselves.”

“These poor doctors figure out they cannot help,” he says. “The medical profession is a religion.”

This just verifies what I have always thought….it’s all about money and not the well-being of the patient. Cannabis oil has been in the news, a lot, recently and I have more faith in it than any drugs prescribed by doctors….sad to say. I, also, believe the big pharmaceutical companies will try to stop the sell of cannabis oil because it will reduce their profits…again…that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? It’s so pathetic…making a buck over peoples’ lives. What has happened to us as the human race?

I’m a non-believer in chemo and agreed with most all that is said here. Treating all types of cancer as one, however, as the article does, is patently foolish and takes away some credibility. I argue with doctors a lot but I think the statement that they realize they can do nothing for health and that it is a religion is patently absurd. To quote Andrew Weil, for health, he’ll take homeopathy. If he’s in a car accident, get him to a trauma center. I might add a ruptured appendix, etc., etc. I hate the way articles like this take valid ideas and invalidate them by going overboard. Reminds me of the 24 hour news networks….

Chemotherapy worked for me. I had my chemo in November, 2005. CHOP. There are many different kinds of cancer… and if naturopaths EVER cured people of cancer… the world would know about it.

The guy in the red shirt and the suit is a known liar, google his name and you find it all. Dont thrust a word of what he says.

I think you cured your self. Many people cure them self or their body does. Many cases of people blaming religion for curing their canser as a example. Maybe you cured yourself with the placebo effect from you thinking chemo works.

Hunh? Google “CHOP chemo” and then tell me again what you think… and also Rituxamb. I had 8 sessions of that drug also.

Can I see the source material for his 97% failure rate and over what time frame. All the medical stuidies i have seen that state success or failure rates (usually expressed as survival rates) after a number of years. The R-CHOP I had for lymphoma has a survival rate of 70% after 5 years. If you look over a long enough time all treatments have a 100% failure rate. Treatment X has a survival rate of 0.1% over a 100 year time.

I cant speak for the medical proffesion in the U.S. but I can for Australia. In my 65 years on this earth, I have yet to meet any doctor that was able to cure anyone from cancer via chemo therapy.
On the other side, I have met many patients who believed they’d be cured by this treatment who are now no longer with us. I also saw first hand what chemo does to people, did you know that the chemo itself carries health warnings on their containers that warn everyone to ensure they have protective clothing/gloves before handling the stuff ? And this same stuff is being pumped into your body in the mistaken belief it’s going to cure you ?
I watched my friend die under this same illusion, the chemo killed his pancreas, ever try living without a pancreas ? His cancer was osophagal, yet he died from pancreas failure. Yep, that chemo sure is good stuff. For killijng people.
I wonder how long it will be, before they use it in prisons on convicted murderers sentenced to death. You gotta dmit, it’s a cheap alternative.

Much too vague. Of course there are dangers, but the 97% figure he just pulled out of the air from twenty years ago. Natural therapies mostly work from the placebo affect and faith by the users.

once U.R diagnosed with cancer—most patients will accept chemotherapy .Leave it alone and most likely live longer and less painful. Young chap was selling Apricot seeds on Ebay–serving jail 37 years.Helped alot cancer once patients but the judge ignored it. I blame Americans for not standing up.

If people diagnosed with cancer had an alternative option that failed 96% of the time, they’d choose it over an option that failed 97% of the time.

Its all about the $$$,$$$,$$$.$$$.00 to be made.

Am I the only one who noticed that there is no actual source for the “97%” claim? No Volume/Issue specified? Well, I went in the American Journal of Oncology’s web site to find the article – and I couldn’t.
So there we have it – yet another “natura-something” charlatan trying to pass off quack cures to the sheeple. Same old, same old.

Did you know doctors get money for every patient they see? What’s your point?
By the way, are you stating that naturopaths, etc., work for free?

CHOP w/ Rutuxamab cured my stage 3 NHL in 4 months. I also did heavy green juicing and a specially prescribed smoothie for extra nutrition. No sugars. No weed. It was hell on me physically, but I’m alive when several other ‘natural’ cure patients are dead.

That’s great Bill!

I was stage 4. I was a mess. I had gone from 180 lbs to 140… that was ten years ago come Thanksgiving. I smoked weed, drank coffee with sugar, my kids fed me well though. I’m sure that the doctors have improved a great deal in the ten years since I went though it.

Rosemerry…that just isn’t true, at all. You’d have to do a heck of a lot of research to prove that point. Natural therapies meaning what specifically????? That’s just as bad as making vague statements about chemo.

0
Travlingypsy

I agree that there is no validation for this claim. You won’t find anything like this in any medical journal. They wouldn’t print it. But saying ‘natura-something’ charlatan, etc is just as dumb. People make these spurulous claims about natural therapis when they know next to nothing about them. I had cancer 3 times and was cured twice without medicine. I’ve never do chemo and surgeries again. it’s painful and unnecessary. Too bad many people think like you.

0
Travlingypsy

Well my dear that is just not true. As usual people who make these sweeping general statements don’t know what they are talking about. There are so many types of treatments for cancer it would blow your mind if you ever did any real reserach. I had cancer 3 times and was cured the 2nd and 3rd times without medicine. I’d never do chemo or surgeries. Yes, some people have chemo and it kills the cancer but that could be a placebo effect. Prove the chemo cured you. You can’t.

Travlingypsy

Doesn’t prove a thing.

Again….when you say ‘natural’ you probably don’t know what you are talking about. There are so many cures for cancer, natural, homeopathic, ayahuasca, vibrational remedies, frequency remedies, emotional/trauma release work, body psychotherapy work, family constellation work, etc. etc. When people tell me they tried ’em all I know they didn’t. It would be a hard thing to do. So many people have died from chemo and cancer it’s mind blowing. You dont’ read about them because they are not included in the studies/research. U. of Miami Oncology Dept. It’s time we get honest about cancer and cures. The fact that docs get a kick back is true. The fact that all their research is drug related is true. They aren’t looking for something that doesn’t cost an arm and two legs. Supporting the medical system is like support the local loan shark. It’s BS. People find one cure and it kills the cancer. Doesn’t mean something else wouldn’t. It means they didn’t have enough information to choose something that would have worked without the torture, humiliation, pain and suffering. Lots of people die from chemo all the time. People die. There is much more to curing illness than medicine has encountered or opened up to. Much, much more. Gotta open your mind and don’t believe everything your told. oh yeah, do your own research so you know what it means when you say ‘natural’. I have an entire family that died from cancer and all took chemo. Didn’t do a freakin thing for them.

Chemo is the only drug that pays doctors for using it. No other drug gives a monetary kick back. I think that is his point. Charging for services is very different that getting a kick back for prescribing chemo. And medicine is such an honest, honorable system. Hardly….

There is so much more to this story than what is written. The story of cancer and money and cure. I spent two years in the medical system with my first cancer and it was humiliating and like torture, so painful. I met the WORST human beings who could not have felt worse about themselves because they know the cure rate is so low and here I am another person they may not cure. It was so obvious. As m y oncologist at U. of Miami (cancer research hosp.) said to me, “Don’t let anyone tell you we know anything about cancer because we don’t. and “the research is stacked in favor of chemo. The women who died from the chemo who had breast cancer are not included in the research”. Out of the horses mouth. I agree this article is way to general but not to be discounted. I had cancer twice more and did not use medicine the 2nd and 3rd times. The chemo was certainly killing me. I was smart enough to stop. It’s unfortunate that people trust someone else who does not have their best interest at heart, to cure them. Medicine rarely cures anybody of anything. They manage your illness. With cancer they kill all fast-dividing cells. That is not a cure. That is murder. Two very different things. I know there is new drugs that are pointed directly to kill just the cancer cells. After all the billions of dollars thrown at cancer don’t you think someone would have figured out something by now? That blows my mind more than anything. Read, “Radical Remission”. Many people who got rid of cancer without medicine. People do it all the time. Don’t be brainwashed. Find another way. There are many. And don’t say ‘natural cures’ as if that means something. It means nothing. There are so many cures other than drugs, so many. People make that statement having no idea about what it means.
